Nagambie’s First Ever Ambulance Service Ready For Busy Summer Season

15 December 2016

Holiday-makers in Nagambie can have confidence they will get the emergency care they need this summer, with Nagambie’s first ever permanent ambulance service now up and running.

Premier Daniel Andrews, Minister for Ambulance Services Jill Hennessy and Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes today caught up with Nagambie Ambulance Community Officers ahead of the busy holiday season.

The new 24-hour Nagambie service, which commenced in October this year, follows an Ambulance Victoria trial over the past summer and Easter.

An evaluation of the trial found the Ambulance Community Officer model of care was the best fit for a rural community such as Nagambie.

Now, thanks to the Andrews Labor Government, Nagambie is home to an Ambulance Community Officer crew trained in delivering high quality emergency care. This means residents and visitors will get quicker responses around the clock, with support from professional paramedics stationed in Nagambie at peak times of the year.

Ambulance Community Officer crews are year-round, backed up by paramedics from nearby stations.

The former Coalition Government had four years to deliver for the Nagambie community and they failed to act.

Our investment will give locals better access to the critical emergency care they need and deserve, especially during the busy summer holiday period.

In addition to establishing Nagambie’s first ever permanent ambulance service, we are investing $500 million – the biggest ever investment in Victoria’s ambulance services – to employ 450 more paramedics, put more ambulances on the road and build 15 new and upgraded stations across Victoria.

Since coming to government, we’ve been working hard every day to rebuild our ambulance system after four years of crisis and neglect under the Liberals.

Now, after two years of investing in and reforming our ambulance system, more ambulances are arriving at emergencies sooner – with state-wide Code 1 average response times the quickest they have been in five years.
