More Support For Young People In Regional Victoria

17 May 2017

The Andrews Labor Government is helping connect young people in regional Victoria to education and community services and provide local youth services with networking and capacity building.

Minister for Youth Affairs Jenny Mikakos today announced $2.025 million in funding as part of the Victorian Budget 2017/18 Regional Presence Project, for four regional offices run by youth sector partners to continue their valuable work across the state.

In Ballarat and Morwell, the Centre for Multicultural Youth supports culturally and linguistically diverse young people to connect with their local community, education and work. This includes facilitating youth led activities that bring young people together.

It also advocates for young people, brokers support between young people and local service providers and provides ways for young people's voices to be heard in community forums and activities.

The Youth Affairs Council of Victoria offices in Swan Hill and Warrnambool also connect young people to education and community services.

It assists young people – especially those experiencing disadvantage – by advocating on issues that affect them, helping them to participate in their local communities and build personal, life and work-related skills.

This funding also ensures young people from diverse backgrounds continue to be supported and promote a sense of wellbeing and belonging.
