More Hospital And Aged Care Beds For Melbourne’s East

24 September 2018

Families in Melbourne’s outer-east will be able to access better hospital and aged care services close to home with a re-elected Andrews Labor Government to deliver a massive expansion of the Angliss Hospital at Ferntree Gully.

Premier Daniel Andrews today unveiled the $20 million new intensive care unit, second short-stay unit, refurbished paediatric area and new mental health spaces in the emergency department, promised and delivered by Labor.

There’s more to do and only Labor will deliver even more hospital beds with stage two of the Angliss Hospital expansion as well as a new hub for aged care services, giving older residents the very best care all in one place, close to home.

A re-elected Labor Government will deliver the next stage of the Angliss Hospital expansion, providing an additional 25 new hospital beds, as well as a new 120-bed aged care facility at the nearby Wantirna Health site.

The new aged care facility will include 60 high care beds and 60 aged care mental health beds and will complement the existing geriatric medicine hospital and palliative care services already offered at the site, creating a healthcare hub for older residents in Melbourne’s east.

Delivering these two major projects means locals will be able to get the very best public healthcare close to home, during every stage of life.

Labor will invest $170 million to deliver these projects, which will create around 500 construction jobs.

Construction on the aged care facility at Wantirna Health will start in 2020 and finish in 2022. Work will then get underway on the Angliss Hospital expansion, which will be finished by 2025.

Jeff Kennett and the Liberals tried to close the Angliss, leaving locals with no choice but to travel into the city for surgery and making an already stressful experience even more difficult.
