Latrobe Valley GovHub Another Step Closer

18 May 2018

More jobs are on their way to the Latrobe Valley with the Andrews Labor Government having completed the Expression of Interest process to appoint a developer and site for the Latrobe Valley GovHub.

The Labor Government has today appointed Castlerock Property to deliver the Latrobe Valley GovHub at 65 Church Street Morwell – one of the first three to be built in our state – which will house up to 300 workers.

The GovHub will include 150 workers from the Victorian public service including Earth Resources Regulation staff, who will establish a new head office in the Latrobe Valley, Parks Victoria staff working in environment, research and other service functions, and staff from the EPA.

With mine regulation and rehabilitation a key focus for the region, the regulator’s new head office will ensure the best local minds are working for the community.

Up to half of the 150 Victorian Government roles will be newly advertised positions, so local job-seekers can apply and the remaining positions will be consolidated from Melbourne.

The Labor Government is continuing to call on the Commonwealth to match Victoria’s commitment job-for-job by locating 150 Australian public service jobs to the region.

Castlerock is a family business, with owners who went to school and grew up in the Latrobe Valley. They still have strong ties and work closely with established businesses within the region.

The project is expected to cost $25 million and will create up to 100 construction jobs, with work expected to commence later this year and completion in 2020.

The new Morwell based GovHub is part of a $266 million Latrobe Valley transition package to support economic growth, create jobs and drive the businesses and industries of the future.

“We now need Malcolm Turnbull to join with us and ensure that the GovHub can reach its fullest potential, with 150 Commonwealth public servants matching the 150 of our own.”

Quote attributable to Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing

“The new GovHub will bring jobs and opportunities to the Valley, as we continue to revitalise the region and give our community a bright new future.”
