Kids Family Fishing Festival, Hook Line And Sinker

30 August 2017

The Andrews Labor Government is helping more kids get into fishing with an exciting range of introductory clinics for children eager to wet a line over Spring.

Minister for Agriculture Jaala Pulford joined fishing icon Rex Hunt at Eildon Pondage today to announce the new VicFishKids program, which will host six introductory fishing clinics to get more children into the healthy outdoor and fun pastime.

Several trophy trout were released into the pondage today, which will be the prize-catch come this weekend.

The VicFishKids clinics are part of the Labor Government’s Target One Million plan, which aims to get more people fishing, more often and increase participation to one million anglers by 2020.

The first clinic is part of this Saturday’s Goulburn Fishing Festival at Eildon from 10:00am, where the first 200 children to attend will receive a free rod and reel.

As well as Eildon, five other VicFishKids events will be held this weekend, including at Albert Park Lake, Mordialloc, Lilydale Lake, Maryborough and Morwell during September and October.

Clinics commence at 10:00am and midday, and there'll be lots to do for the entire family including a free photo booth to immortalise that fish of a lifetime.

All waters will be stocked prior with catchable rainbow trout (except Mordialloc and Maryborough), and some fish will be released on the day too.
