The Andrews Labor Government is helping local football clubs improve their facilities and encouraging more Victorians to play the world game.
Minister for Sport John Eren joined Member for Macedon Mary-Anne Thomas at the home of the Kyneton District Soccer Club today to announce the Labor Government’s new $2.5 million The World Game Facilities Fund.
When it comes to football, participation is booming with more than 350,000 Victorians playing the world game.
That’s why the Labor Government is backing local clubs to ensure football continues to grow at the grassroots level.
The dedicated fund will allow football clubs and organisations to apply for support to deliver projects such as new lighting, pitch upgrades and building female-friendly change rooms.
These projects benefit the entire community – players, volunteers, coaches and fans.
Lighting means a facility or ground can be used day or night, giving clubs greater flexibility to train and play, while synthetic pitches remove the burden of watering and maintenance costs.
Building female-friendly change rooms will help level the playing field for women’s sport and ensure women and girls can get ready for the big game in facilities they deserve.
Grants of up to $250,000 will be available to upgrade existing facilities or build new ones to help grow the game and provide more opportunities for Victorians to get active.
