Independent Review To Protect Our Costal Reserve

22 March 2015

Labor Member for Bellarine and Minister for Environment, Lisa Neville, today announced an independent review of the previous Bellarine Bayside Committee of Management (BBCoM) will commence this week, led by Melbourne-based firm PPB Advisory.

The review is being conducted while an interim committee is in place, to ensure we have the best structures to care for and protect our coastal reserve.

Bellarine Bayside Committee of Management is responsible for the planning, management, care and protection of assets and crown land along the North Bellarine foreshore, from Portarlington to St Leonards.

Ms Neville said the independent review of the previous committee’s practices will assess governance, finances and community engagement processes.

Department of Environment, Land Water and Planning regional staff are briefing the appointed consultants this week. A draft report from the independent review team is due in mid-May, with a final report before June.

PPB Advisory have extensive knowledge in organisational effectiveness, governance, finance and community engagement. The process will be led by engagement partner Joe Dick and includes project manager Stuart Kells, supported by fellow director Tim Sturrock and specialist engagement contractor Fiona Kerr.

Members of the Interim Committee are: Dianne James as Chairperson, Steve Griffin, Graeme McGregor, Elaine Carbines, Neil Bell, Paul Simmons, Therese Cotter and Lindsay Ellis.

Interested members of the public are urged to discuss matters of interest with the new committee members through the Bellarine Bayside offices on 5254 4000.
