Horsham Cup First Past The Post This March

09 March 2018

Horsham Greyhound Racing Club is gearing up to host its feature event of the year with the Group Two Horsham Cup this Saturday, 10 March.

The Andrews Labor Government is contributing almost $11,500 through the Victorian Racing Industry Fund to the event at the new and improved racetrack at the Horsham Showgrounds.

The Horsham Greyhound Racing Club and Greyhound Racing Victoria are each providing almost $6,000 towards the cup.

Racegoers will be entertained with an array of options including an Old English Pub, giveaways, and form expert and race caller James Van De Maat will be hosting a punters club on the night. Children will be kept busy with jumping castles, giant slides, face painting, roving performers, fairy floss and popcorn.

Locals and visitors in town for the Horsham Fishing Competition will be able to catch a free shuttle bus from various points along the Wimmera River, including the corner of Riverside Road and Petrie Lane on the north river side, and on Major Mitchell Drive on the south river side.

Since 2014, the Labor Government has contributed almost $74,000 to support infrastructure and four greyhound racing events at Horsham.

The racing industry in the Wimmera region alone generates more than $37 million for the Victorian economy each year and helps sustain over 360 full-time jobs locally.
