A new training program that links people directly to a job will be trialled in Gippsland, thanks to funding from the Andrews Labor Government to help boost employment in local growth industries.
Minister for Training and Skills Gayle Tierney today launched Skills Uplift – Gippsland, a pilot program to address rates of unemployment within the region.
Skills Uplift provides participants with the skills they need to get a job through training designed to help meet the region’s labour needs, in partnership with local employers.
From May, Federation Training will start delivering these Skill Sets, which can be completed faster than a full qualification and are tailored to match the skills needed for current job vacancies.
Skills Uplift – Gippsland will test the ability of skill sets to meet the training needs of industry and the community.
FGM Consultants will also provide 100 participants with the skills needed to start an entry-level position within the meat processing industry.
Once training has been completed, participants are guaranteed a job with Greenham Gippsland at their recently opened Moe abattoir.
The Gippsland pilot is part of a $6 million program under the Regional and Specialist Training Fund which delivers training to respond to industry-led demand for specific skills in regions and specialist areas.
