Geelong To Showcase A Summer Of Racing

01 December 2017

Geelong is gearing up to host a series of feature race days this summer, thanks to a joint funding package of $134,000 supported by the Andrews Labor Government.

The Labor Government is contributing more than $64,000 from the Victorian Racing Industry Fund Raceday Attraction Program towards the Geelong Racing Club’s 2017–18 Summer of Racing.

The series kicks off this Sunday 3 December with the Christmas Party race day, followed by the mid-week Christmas Party race day on 14 December, the Boxing Day Races on 26 December, the Bellarine Cup Day on 4 January, and the Pink Angels McGrath Foundation race day on 28 January.

Each event will feature a range of entertainment for racing enthusiasts, families, community groups and holiday-makers.

Patrons can celebrate with local food and wine, and family-friendly entertainment will range from live music performances to photo booths. Jumping castles, face-painting, animal farms and games will ensure that children are kept well entertained.

A highlight of Bellarine Cup Day on 4 January will be performances by Chris Humfrey and the Wild Action zoo team featuring an array of native animals.

The club is also offering a range of ticketing incentives to ensure the festivities appeal to all budgets, providing quality, value-for-money entertainment.

The club is contributing more than $64,000 towards the series, while Country Racing Victoria is providing $5,000.

Since 2014, the Labor Government has contributed more than $922,000 to support nine infrastructure projects and eight racing events in Geelong.

The racing industry in the Barwon region generates more than $106 million for the Victorian economy annually and helps sustain more than 1,050 full-time equivalent jobs in the region.
