Vital maintenance works will be carried out along the Geelong line and construction will ramp up on the new train storage yard at Wyndham Vale this weekend to boost reliability for local passengers.
The works include the installation of signalling equipment and underground cabling, and drainage and other track works.
As a result of these essential works, coaches will replace trains between Melbourne and Geelong from around 9pm Friday 30 August until the last service on Sunday 1 September.
A mix of express and semi-express coaches would help get passengers where they need to go.
Warrnambool line trains will continue to run between Warrnambool and Geelong during the 30 August to 1 September line closure.
The new train storage yard will be built north of Wyndham Vale Station and will be able to house and refuel up to six VLocity trains – boosting capacity on the regional network.
Along with the stabling yard, there will be a bypass track connected to the Geelong line so that trains can access the facility without holding up passenger services.
