Students at McKinnon Secondary College are a step closer to getting new state-of-the-art facilities with the Andrews Labor Government announcing it is seeking a builder to construct a second campus.
Minister for Education James Merlino today announced a request for tenders to construct the new campus to help meet the growing demand for enrolments at the school and alleviate the pressure on its existing campus.
Set to open in 2022, the new campus will accommodate up to 1,100 McKinnon Secondary College students in a new contemporary learning environment, providing them with what they need to succeed and encouraging them to actively engage with their education.
It will incorporate modernised learning spaces, shared community facilities and areas for gathering and celebrating the achievements of students.
Today’s announcement builds on the Labor Government’s commitment to deliver 100 new schools by 2026 to meet the demands of the state’s growing population.
The Labor Government is building the Education State to ensure that every student can access a great local school and get a great education.
Since 2015, it has invested more than $6.1 billion to deliver new primary and secondary schools, and upgrade more than 1,400 existing ones.
The school building boom is creating 7,500 jobs across the state, with builders now working to deliver the 11 schools across the state that will open in 2020.
