Delivering More Skills And Training For Casey Students

16 October 2018

Students from 21 secondary schools in Casey will now have access to the latest technology and industry linked learning programs, thanks to the Andrews Labor Government.

Minister for Education James Merlino today joined Member for Narre Warren North Luke Donnellan and Narre Warren South Judith Graley to officially open the state-of-the-art Casey Tech School, the ninth of 10 to open under the Labor Government’s Tech School initiative.

Casey Tech School will feature purpose-built spaces for students to collaborate, practice design thinking and participate in high-level problem solving, as well as design spaces where students get hands-on experience using specialised high-tech STEM equipment.

The school’s programs will have a special focus on advanced manufacturing, biomedical and allied healthcare technologies and smart and sustainable cities, with students having access to a biomedical laboratory, robotics and a virtual reality laboratory as well as studios for video production and digital media.

Designed by Spowers Architects and built by APM Group, the Tech School is located at Chisholm Institute’s Berwick campus and will used extensively by schools and the community.

The high-tech, hands-on programs will be offered free to more than 22,000 students from the 21 government, catholic and independent schools and are aligned with industries predicted to experience economic and employment growth, helping kids to learn about the jobs of the future.

Tech Schools are part of the Labor Government’s plan to boost performance in STEM subjects, including a 25 per cent increase in the number of Year 9 students reaching the highest level of achievement in mathematics and 33 per cent more 15-year-olds reaching the highest levels in science.
