Delivering A Community And Education Performing Arts Centre At Gasworks Art Park

15 October 2018

Inner-city families will get the world-class facilities their kids deserve, with a re-elected Andrews Labor Government to invest in a new Community and Education Performing Arts Centre at Gasworks Arts Park.

Labor will invest $12.5 million for the first stage of a new state-of-the art facility to provide a creative space for students and staff from Albert Park College and the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School and deliver new performance spaces that will also be shared with the wider community.

This new facility will address the need that the theatre and performing arts community of inner Melbourne have for more shared performance and rehearsal space, whilst delivering performance and educational spaces that the two schools have identified as a major focus for them.

Funding will go towards planning of this new facility, with the establishment of a Stakeholder Reference Group, as well as funding for site remediation and the first stage of capital works. The new facility will be established in partnership with Gasworks Arts Park, Albert Park College and the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School.

Every child should have a good local school and the chance to succeed in life, and only a re-elected Andrews Labor Government will deliver that for inner city kids.

The Liberals slashed $1 billion out of our education system, leaving schools to crumble and decay across the state.

Only Labor will deliver the state of the art facilities students and staff from Albert Park College and the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School deserve. The Labor Government has invested more than $3.8 billion to build 70 new schools and upgrade 1,300 schools across the state since coming to office in 2014.

That means thousands of Victorian kids now go to school every day and learn in new classrooms with better technology and facilities, like new gyms and science labs. It’s also helped create 5,000 construction jobs for Victorians right around our state.

A re-elected Labor Government will keep delivering for Victorians with more new schools and upgrades to existing schools across the state.
