Creating A Stronger TAFE In Mildura

28 September 2017

The Andrews Labor Government is ensuring all Victorians have access to high quality training through our Skills First TAFE Community Service funding.

Minister for Training and Skills Gayle Tierney today joined staff and students at SuniTAFE’s Mildura campus, to announce the institute is receiving $1.52 million from the fund.

Community Service funding helps TAFEs support students to finish their training and secure a job by funding counselling, welfare and library services, as well as language and literacy programs.

This funding supports TAFEs to deliver services and programs that ensure everyone can access the training they need to complete their studies and get the job they want.

$590,000 will be used to continue the work of the Mildura Skills and Jobs Centre, which has helped almost 800 people get the training and career support they need to find a job or move into further training.

The funding will also provide classroom language, literacy and numeracy support for disadvantaged learners, particularly Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning, foundation and English language students and apprentices.

The literacy and numeracy support enables disadvantaged students to remain engaged in and successfully complete their studies, as well as having a positive impact on students’ confidence, self-esteem and post-training outcomes.
