City March To Launch Victoria Against Violence Campaign

Marking the International Day of the Elimination of Violence against Women, the Andrews Labor Government will today launch the second annual 16 day Victoria Against Violence campaign.

The campaign will tip off with the Walk Against Violence from Federation Square through the CBD, led by Minister for the Prevention of Family Violence Fiona Richardson and Victoria Against Violence ambassadors Tarang Chawla, Kristy McKellar and Corrine Grant.

Anyone can join in the city walk at 1-3pm today, which will be a sea of orange with placards, highlighting violence against women.

Following yesterday’s launch of the Labor Government’s 10 Year Plan to end family violence, today kicks off a full calendar of Victoria Against Violence events, including:

• The Victoria Women’s Website launch – the new website women.vic.gov.au supporting the prevention of family violence and will promote gender equality and women’s leadership
• Victoria’s first ever Gender Equality Strategy will be launched, driving real change for women across all sectors of society and addressing the link between gender inequality and violence against women
• Landmarks across the state will be lit up orange every night of the 16 day campaign
• The Hope Project movie premiere – a new film telling the stories of a number of victims, produced by Domestic Violence Victoria

The Victoria Against Violence campaign is a key part of the UN’s orange themed UNiTE to End Violence Against Women campaign from today 25 November to 10 December, International Human Rights Day.

To be part of the Victoria Against Violence campaign at work, in the community or at home, the public can wear or display orange and use the #VICforWomen and #OrangeDay hashtags on social media.
