Building The Education State In Frankston And Carrum

17 May 2016

Students in Frankston and Carrum were big winners in Victorian Budget 2016/17 and will now enjoy the facilities they deserve thanks to an unprecedented investment in Victorian schools.

Minister for Education James Merlino today visited Frankston schools with Member for Frankston Paul Edbrooke to meet staff and students, and discuss plans following the funding injection.

This included a tour of Mahogany Rise Primary, which was awarded $200,000 from the $16 million School Pride and Sports Fund in the Budget and a visit to Derinya Primary.

Mr Merlino also visited Belvedere Park Primary with Member for Carrum Sonya Kilkenny which was awarded $45,000 from the Fund.

This year’s Budget provides an unprecedented $1.1 billion investment in school infrastructure, including a $16 million School Pride and Sports Fund which is designed to build school and community pride.

Construction planning will also be underway at Seaford North Primary which will share in the Budget’s $12 million school planning fund.

Belvedere Park Primary also received a funding boost this year with $328,944 in equity funding, an increase of $156,448 compared to last year.

Mahogany Rise Primary School is receiving $474,062 in equity funding in 2016, up $155,892 compared with 2015, and Derinya Primary School received $17,633, up from nothing last year.

As part of Education Week, Victorian students at hundreds of schools and early childhood centres will open their doors to the community to showcase how they are helping Victorian children reach their potential, focusing on this year’s theme technology.
