Building New School Facilities In Portland

19 April 2018

The Andrews Labor Government is making sure students in Portland have the classrooms and school facilities they need for a great education.

Minister for Education James Merlino today toured the Portland Bay School, which educates students with special needs, as finishing touches were put on the new classrooms.

The move to share a site with Portland Primary School means students have the classrooms and facilities they deserve. The oval is also being upgraded and will be shared by the two schools.

The project received $7 million in the Victorian Budget 2016/17 and is expected to be complete in the coming weeks.

The new Portland Bay School facilities include new craft learning spaces, general classrooms with Manual Activities classes to be housed in a standalone building.

Kneeler Design Architects designed the upgrade, with Nicholson Construction building it.

The Minister also visited Portland Primary School’s completed building project, which included refurbishments of classrooms, the school administration and library. Portland Primary School received $1 million in the Victorian Budget 2016/17.

The Labor Government is building the Education State so every Victorian student can get a great education and every community has access to a great local school.

This includes an unprecedented $2.8 billion investment to improve classrooms, upgrade facilities and build new schools across the state.

This school building boom has delivered more than 1,200 school upgrades and 64 new school projects across the state, supporting more than 5,000 construction jobs for Victorians.
