Building Better Kindergartens In The Western District

13 October 2017

The Andrews Labor Government is improving early childhood services in Colac with work set to begin on the Colac East Kindergarten upgrade.

Minister for Families and Children Jenny Mikakos today turned the first sod of the $389,000 upgrade which will increase capacity at the kindergarten and improve its facilities.

This includes increasing the size of the kinder’s entrance, as well as expanding the space available for parental support programs such as allied health and Maternal Child Health services.

Construction is expected to finish by the end of the year.

The Labor Government provided $289,464 for the project, with Colac Otway Shire contributing $50,119, Barwon Child, Youth & Family contributing $46,369 and the Colac East Kindergarten committee contributing $3,750.

The Government is delivering a record $70 million to build, expand and upgrade kinders across Victoria to ensure local families can continue to access great local kindergartens.

Colac families will also benefit from the Government’s $202 million Education State Early Childhood Reform Plan, announced in the Victorian Budget 2017/18.

This ground-breaking reform plan recognises the importance of providing families with strong support in early childhood, so kids are ready for kinder, ready for school and ready for life.

It will mean local parents can access improved parenting support and Maternal and Child Health Services, as well as higher quality and more inclusive kindergartens.
