Boxing Day Racing Returns To Horsham

Boxing Day greyhound racing is back at the Horsham Showgrounds track, thanks to a joint funding package of more than $13,300 supported by the Andrews Labor Government.

The Labor Government is contributing more than $6,700 from the Victorian Racing Industry Fund to Horsham’s Boxing Day Picnic at the Races on 26 December.

Greyhound Racing Victoria is providing more than $4,500 towards the race day, while the Horsham Greyhound Racing Club is contributing more than $2,100.

The Boxing Day event is promising to be a fun-filled day of racing and trackside entertainment, with racegoers encouraged to pack a picnic and take in the excitement of greyhound racing while also catching the Boxing Day Test on the big screen.

Entertainment will be on offer for young and old with a designated area for children as well as an inflatable ‘Old English Pub’-style bar and garden. The bar will include a barbeque throughout the day for hungry patrons.

Every child will receive a free slushie, popcorn and fairy floss, with jumping castles, a giant slide and face painting also on offer.

Since 2014, the Labor Government has contributed more than $24,800 to support two greyhound racing events at Horsham.

The racing industry in the Wimmera Region generates more than $37 million for the Victorian economy annually and helps sustain more than 360 full-time equivalent jobs in the region.
