Bowled Over By New Geelong Bowls Super Centre

12 October 2018

Geelong residents are celebrating on and off the green with today’s opening of the highly anticipated regional bowls facility made possible by $650,000 in funds from the Andrews Labor Government.

Minister for Sport John Eren visited the centre to officially open it and congratulate everyone involved.

Grassroots lawn bowls clubs are the lifeblood of our towns and suburbs and they deserve modern, safe and inclusive facilities.

This project marks the start of an exciting new era for lawn bowls in Geelong, completing the merger of two popular clubs – Drumcondra and Geelong West.

The new super centre for bowls features a fully accessible clubhouse, an undercover synthetic green and an outdoor synthetic green.

This new facility provides a perfect base for all things bowls, from player development to local pennant as well as barefoot bowls.

The new venue is also ready to roll when it comes to hosting major state and national bowls competitions, bringing more visitors to the region and creating a more active Geelong.

The Labor Government is committed to giving all Victorians the opportunity to get out there and get active.

Across Victoria we've invested $420 million in community sport and recreation facilities including local and regional sports grounds, leisure facilities, parks, playgrounds, bowls venues and other sport and recreation infrastructure.

It’s backed by almost half a billion dollars from our 2018/19 Budget to ensure sport and active recreation goes from strength to strength.

Minister Eren acknowledged project partners City of Greater Geelong, City of Geelong Bowls Inc, Bendigo Bank and the local community for their commitment and financial contributions to the new regional bowls centre.
