Boosting Victoria’s Renewable Energy Industry

21 September 2017

The Andrews Labor Government today announced $100,000 to increase production of an innovative renewable energy management product produced by Australian Wind and Solar.

Australian Wind and Solar are investing $398,000 to set up a facility to design and assemble the SunMate product locally in Victoria.

The SunMate product can be used by homes and businesses to enable surplus renewable energy to be redirected to power hot water, underfloor heating, pumps, and other devices.

This technology can also be used to reduce problems faced by distribution networks when demand is high by diverting excess renewable energy back to the grid.

Australian Wind and Solar currently produce 500 units annually, this funding will help it increase output to more than 1000 units each year.

Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change Lily D’Ambrosio announced the funding today as part of the second round of the Government’s $20 million New Energy Jobs Fund (NEJF) grants.

The NEJF allows for grants of between $20,000 and $1 million to support new energy technology projects that support the uptake of renewable energy, reduce emissions, and assist community groups to develop their own projects.

Over 50 applications were received in round two of the New Energy Jobs Fund, resulting in 21 successful projects receiving a total of $6.7 million in grants.
