Boosting Children’s Services In Torquay

17 April 2018

More families in Torquay have access to children and family services, with the opening of a brand-new integrated facility.

Minister for Early Childhood Education Jenny Mikakos today visited Kurrambee Myaring Community Centre to officially open the $6.8 million building.

The centre provides kindergarten programs, Maternal and Child Health services, playgroups, occasional care and spaces for early intervention services and parenting programs.

The Victorian Government provided Surf Coast Shire $1.6 million for the project through the Children’s Facilities Capital Program.

The facility offers both three- and four-year-old kinder programs and includes meeting spaces for all community members, private breastfeeding and changing facilities and a dedicated space for young people.

The Labor Government has invested a record $123.6 million to build, expand and improve early years infrastructure across Victoria to ensure local families can continue to access great local kindergartens.

Torquay families will also benefit from the Government’s $202.1 million Education State Early Childhood Reform Plan, announced in the Victorian Budget 2017/18.

This reform plan recognises the importance of providing families with strong support in early childhood, so kids are ready for kinder, ready for school and ready for life.
