Boost For Ballarat Community Race Days

06 April 2018

Racegoers at Ballarat are gearing up for a series of community themed race days under a joint investment package of more than $31,000.

The first race meeting will pay tribute to emergency services workers with a CFA Day meeting on Sunday 8 April, and the second race meeting on Mother’s Day, Sunday 13 May, will recognise the tireless efforts of mums.

The Andrews Labor Government is providing more than $15,000 towards the two events through the Victorian Racing Industry Fund. The Ballarat Turf Club is contributing almost $14,000.

The CFA Day meeting is a community and family-focused event that celebrates local firefighters and creates awareness of the important role they play in helping to keep the people of Ballarat safe.

CFA firefighters are also generously providing $2,500 of in-kind support to run educational demonstrations and help man the gate at the CFA Day race meeting.

The Mother’s Day meeting in May is growing in popularity and is now a part of the Ballarat social and racing calendar.

Since 2014, the Labor Government has provided more than $1.37 million to support seven infrastructure projects and more than 20 race day attraction events at Ballarat.

The racing industry in the Central Highlands generates more than $96 million for the Victorian economy annually and helps to sustain more than 950 full-time equivalent jobs in the region.
