Benalla West Estate To Receive $10 Million Facelift

19 September 2018

Public housing tenants in Benalla will benefit from a $10 million upgrade to the Benalla West housing estate, thanks to an Andrews Labor Government boost to regional public housing.

Minister for Housing Martin Foley and Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes today announced the upgrade, which will make improvements to the Benalla West estate, including better public spaces and connections to surrounding neighbourhoods.

To ensure local residents are given a say in the planned upgrade, a Community Consultation Committee will be established with local community leaders, residents and council to inform the planning of the project.

The Labor Government is working with the Rural City of Benalla, the local community and tenants to inform, prepare and deliver the improvements.

The upgrade to the estate is part of a broader $30 million public housing boost for regional Victoria undertaken by the Labor Government.

The first stage of the project will give local residents, tenants and the surrounding community an opportunity to have their say on what they love about the area and what they think should change. These ideas will help the Government and local council develop a masterplan for the estate area.

The Department of Health and Human Services will provide support and assistance for tenants to participate in this process.
