Apsley Cup Returns To Edenhope

08 June 2018

The Andrews Labor Government is supporting Australia’s oldest racing club as part of the 2018 Apsley Cup.

The Labor Government is providing more than $19,000 from its Victorian Racing Industry Fund Raceday Attraction Program to support the event, as part of a $46,000 joint funding initiative.

The cup is returning home to Edenhope Racecourse on Sunday 10 June after travelling to Hamilton last year due to wet conditions.

A new ‘Winter Warmers’ precinct will be a feature of this year’s event, keeping patrons dry on the day. The enclosed marquee will be fitted out with heaters, seating and televisions.

Children will also be entertained with sporting activities, a jumping castle and a bucking bull ride.

Complimentary shuttle buses will transport racegoers to and from the racecourse from Naracoorte, Penola, Frances, Mount Gambier and Hamilton.

The Apsley Racing Club is also providing more than $19,000 and Country Racing Victoria is contributing $8000.

Local businesses are getting behind the event, providing more than $17,000 in sponsorship and donated prizes.

Since 2014, the Labor Government has provided more than $71,000 to support four cup race meetings held by the club.

The racing industry in the Wimmera region generates more than $37 million for the Victorian economy annually and helps to sustain more than 360 local jobs.
