A Tourism Win As Supercars Race Back Into Victoria

11 October 2018

The Andrews Labor Government has Motor enthusiasts from across Australia cheering after announcing that the Supercars will return to Melbourne and regional Victoria once again in 2019.

Minister for Tourism and Major Events John Eren joined Supercar drivers at the iconic Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit today to formally announce that the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship will return to four different locations across Victoria in 2019.

The four events are:

  • Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park, 14-17 March 2019
  • WD-40 Phillip Island SuperSprint at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit, 12-14 April 2019
  • Winton SuperSprint at Winton Motor Raceway, 24-26 May 2019
  • Sandown 500 at Sandown Raceway, 8-10 November 2019

The Supercars Package also secures the 2019 season launch event to be held in Melbourne.

The return of the WD-40 Phillip Island SuperSprint will include the Mustang to the Track, a Supercars eSport event and, importantly, team testing taking place at Phillip Island.

The Supercars package will help grow tourism in Melbourne and regional Victoria – giving motorsport fans and their families even more reason to visit Phillip Island, the High Country and wider Victoria.

Supercars have a huge broadcast reach, with the races shown in more than 100 countries, which offers great exposure for Melbourne and Victoria as motorsport fans witness our major events.

The Supercars Event Package helps solidify Victoria as the Motorsport Capital and grows our visitor economy.
