A New Roof For Fitzroy Primary School

20 May 2016

Students and teachers at Fitzroy Primary School are celebrating a new roof, thanks to a $353,000 contribution from the Andrews Labor Government.

Minister for Education James Merlino and Member for Richmond Richard Wynne today visited Fitzroy Primary School to join in the celebrations, tour the facilities and discuss school priorities.

Established in 1855, Fitzroy Primary School has grown into a vibrant modern school with 124 students from a diverse range of backgrounds.

Students benefit from innovative teaching programs, such as an immersive Spanish language program and Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden complete with a purpose-built kitchen for Year 3-6 cooking lessons.

The Andrews Labor Government is building the Education State so that every Victorian student has access to a great education.

The Victorian Budget 2016-17 delivered an unprecedented $1.1 billion investment in school infrastructure, including a record $924 million for capital works and an extra $200 million for maintenance.

Fitzroy Primary School received another boost this year, receiving $339,937 in equity funding – a boost of $130,390 compared to 2015.

This is part of an extra $566 million being provided through the Education State to help schools and students most in need to break the cycle of disadvantage.

As part of Education Week, Victorian students at hundreds of schools and early childhood centres will open their doors to the community to showcase how they are helping Victorian children reach their potential, focusing on this year’s theme technology.
