A New Hub To Boost Renewable Energy Uptake

16 October 2018

The Andrews Labor Government has contributed $150,000 towards an online education and facilitation hub to make it easier for businesses to invest in renewable energy.

Minister for Energy Lily D’Ambrosio today announced the establishment of the Business Renewable Centre Australia – a partnership led by the Climate Knowledge Innovation Community Australia (Climate-KIC Australia), the World Wildlife Fund and the University of Technology Sydney Institute for Sustainable Futures.

The $1.7 million project is backed by funding contributions from the Victorian Government, the New South Wales Government and the Australian Renewable Energy Agency.

It will include resources and a marketplace platform to help Victorian businesses save money on their annual energy bills and act on climate change.

Participating businesses will have access to independent advice on renewable energy and training sessions run by leading industry experts.

The Business Renewables Centre Australia will help the Labor Government achieve its net zero emissions target and ambitious renewable energy targets of 25 per cent by 2020 and 40 per cent by 2025 by accelerating uptake of large-scale renewable energy.

The initiative builds on the success of on the Rocky Mountain Institute’s Business Renewables Centre in the US, which has 260 members and has already helped deliver more than 11 gigawatts of renewable energy deals since 2014.

The Business Renewable Centre Australia has set a target to facilitate 250 megawatts of new installed capacity in Victoria by 2022 and 5 gigawatts across Australia by 2030.
