In 2008 all Victorians have, for the first time, the opportunity to directly join the policy debate.

The Statement of Government Intentions will be made by the Premier at the first sitting of Parliament each year. In it, he will outline the major legislative initiatives planned for the year by the Government.

In the past, the Governor delivered a speech every four years outlining the policy direction of the newly elected Government. The Statement of Government Intentions now gives the community an opportunity to debate the merits of planned legislation at the start of each year.
