Eddington Report Online Forum

Tuesday, 08 July 2008
Sir Rod Eddington’s report, Investing in Transport, was released in April with 20 recommendations to improve east-west travel in Melbourne.

The Brumby Government is now considering the report and will release a comprehensive transport plan for Victoria by the end of the year. This plan will respond to Sir Rod's proposals for Melbourne's east-west corridor and consider other transport priorities across the state.

While there has already been vigorous and welcome community debate about Victoria's transport needs there are a number of questions, which need to be asked when considering our transport priorities.  These include whether potential projects could make:

  • our economy more productive;
  • our communities more liveable; and
  • our state more environmentally sustainable.

There should be no doubt that Victoria is facing a growing transport challenge.

With 1500 people arriving every week, a booming economy, petrol price pressure and environmental concerns to be mindful of the decisions we make now could affect our transport networks for decades to come.

That’s why we need to hear the views of all interested Victorians – through this web forum and through the formal submissions process  which closes Tuesday 15 July.The Government will consider all public comments when making decisions for the future – to deliver the best transport system for Victoria.

The forum has now closed - Thank you to all that participated, comments can still be read.
