Works Start On $73m Shepparton Law Courts

08 April 2016

Parliamentary Secretary for Justice Ben Carroll will help make history at the turning of the first sod for the new state-of-the-art $73 million Shepparton Law Courts.

Mr Carroll will be joined by Supreme Court Judge Peter Riordan, Chief Magistrate Peter Lauritsen, County Court Judge Gerard Mullaly, Member for Northern Victoria and Minister for Training and Skills Steve Herbert and Member for Shepparton Suzanna Sheed, to officially break ground on the 2700 square metre site today.

Building work is expected to begin on the modern multi-jurisdictional court facility later this month, with construction likely to be completed by the end of 2017.

When finished, the five-storey building will include six courtrooms – two of which can accommodate juries.

The new design will also incorporate family violence facilities and services, including a remote witness suite, discrete meeting rooms with direct courtroom access and a child and family friendly waiting room.

The building, located on the corner of High and Wyndham Streets, completes Shepparton’s justice precinct, with the police station situated to the west and the 1930s heritage court building situated in the precinct centre.
