Work Starts On New State-Of-The-Art Police Headquarters

18 August 2017

Construction is underway on a new state-of-the-art Victoria Police headquarters in Melbourne’s CBD..

Minister for Police Lisa Neville and Chief Commissioner Graham Ashton inspected work on the Victoria Police Centre (VPC) on Spencer Street today, which will provide unprecedented security for frontline police and staff.

The new centre will be connected to the neighbouring City West Police complex, with close access to the Melbourne Assessment Prison, the court precinct and transport hub Southern Cross Station.

The building will house 2500 employees including staff from the Victoria Police Monitoring and Assessment Centre, Transit and Public Safety, Road Policing Command, Family Violence Command, State Emergencies and Security Command and the force’s corporate departments.

The new 39-storey VPC has been designed with blast and ram raid-proof technologies to provide a safe, secure facility that will be integrated into the wider street scape.

The development will support more than 1,000 construction jobs as well as 100 apprentice and trainee positions.

Developer Cbus Property and Keppel REIT have appointed Probuild to build the new tower, with at least 82 per cent of content to be sourced locally.

Construction of the police hub will be complete in late 2019, with police and staff expected to move in during 2020.

The Labor Government is delivering a record $2 billion investment in Victoria Police, to give the force the resources, facilities and powers it needs to keep Victoria safe.
