Water Quality Boost For Maryborough

30 May 2016

Maryborough will see improvements to water quality and have greater drought resilience thanks to a new $5.6 million water treatment facility announced by the Andrews Labor Government.

The new Reverse Osmosis Salt Reduction Plant will be integrated with existing surface water to improve water quality for residents and provide additional resilience to drought and climate variability.

Maryborough has experienced lower than average rainfall for many years. The low rainfall has resulted in low inflows and drier catchments, causing a deterioration in water quality. Lower water quality can affect water taste.

The improved facility will provide drinking water that meets all health-based water quality parameters, including taste and odour improvements.

The Build and Operate contract has been awarded to Veolia in a Public Private Partnership contract with Central Highlands Water.

Upgrading water infrastructure is an important part of developing the Victorian water grid which is providing water security for more communities right across the state.

Work is expected to be completed by November 2016.
