Victoria’s Education Excellence Continues To Shine In Asia

31 March 2017

Victoria’s expertise in education, innovation and food and fibre have been on show this week to some of Vietnam and Indonesia’s most influential business, government and industry leaders.

Small Business, Innovation and Trade Minister Philip Dalidakis travelled across the two South East Asian countries over the past four days promoting Victoria’s strengths, overseeing new collaborations and paving the way for more investment opportunities with our local businesses.

During the visit a number of agreements were reached, including:

  • The Victorian Government and AusCham Vietnam signed a MoU to share information and collaborate across major industry sectors including food and agribusiness, and education and training.
  • RMIT University’s Vietnam campus signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with venture capital fund Vina Capital to establish a professorial chair at the university’s Ho Chi Minh City campus specialising in Vietnamese investment.
  • RMIT, Indonesia Logistic Association and two Indonesian Universities also signed a MoU, agreeing to map Indonesia’s industry skill gaps and develop a skills training paper.
  • Finally, Mr Dalidakis and the Indonesian Minister for Tourism agreed to explore more opportunities for establishing student exchange programs, faculty exchanges, educational programs and competency certification programs.

The agreements highlight Victoria’s growing reputation for education excellence across the region. Vietnam and Indonesia already make significant contributions to Victoria’s international education sector, with Vietnam currently the state’s fourth largest source for international students.

International Education is Victoria’s largest service export worth $6.5 billion dollars to our local economy – also supporting more than 30,000 jobs across the state.

Further strengthening Victoria’s reputation as the Education State, the Andrews Labor Government continues to take brand Victoria to the world promoting the very best of everything we have to offer including excellent education institutions, a AAA rated economy, a multicultural and diverse society and a stable political climate.

With 175,000 international students currently studying across the state, the number is primed to grow this year.
