Victorian Produce Takes The Cake On A National Stage

08 September 2017

Victorian producers have reigned supreme at the Australian Food Awards, taking out 30 of the 60 titles in a testament to the outstanding food and fibre industry.

Minister for Agriculture Jaala Pulford congratulated the Victorian producers and food manufacturers who won big at last night’s Australian Food Awards.

More than 30 Victorian companies took out over 60 awards across eight categories at last night’s presentation dinner at the Melbourne Showgrounds.

Victorian producers and manufacturers to be awarded Champion Trophies include:

  • Zeally Bay Sourdough - Champion Australian Organic Product/Produce and Champion Australian Grains and Pulses
  • Dooley's Ice Cream - Champion Australian Medium Producer/Manufacturer and Champion Australian Dairy
  • Bertocchi Smallgoods - Champion Australian Large Producer/Manufacturer
  • Puyol Nominees Pty Ltd - Champion Australian Poultry
  • Wildes Lane - Champion Australian Fresh Produce
  • Louise - Champion Australian Convenience Food

Lago Smallgoods, Milawa Cheese Company, Warrnambool Cheese & Butter and Bertocchi Smallgoods took out gold medals, while Dooley’s Ice Cream from Apollo Bay received 12 medals for Consistency of Excellence.

The Australian Food Awards are held annually by The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria. The Awards recognise the best Australian food products and produce across eight major categories, including Dairy, Meat, Poultry, Seafood, Fresh Produce, Grains and Pulses, Pantry Goods and Convenience Foods.

Medal winners will have the opportunity to present their prized produce with around 440,000 consumers over 11 days in the Winning Tastes Pavilion at the Royal Melbourne Show.

Victoria is Australia’s leading producer of food and fibre, and accounts for 29 per cent of agricultural exports. Promoting Victoria’s finest producers through the Australian Food Awards will help connect local producers to global markets.

The Andrews Labor Government is continuing to support the sector through productivity boosting research and development, helping farmers and their communities during tough times, maintaining strong biosecurity protection and improving market access to export destinations.
