Victorian Films To Debut At Major International Festival

Minister for Creative Industries Martin Foley today congratulated five Victorian feature films selected for the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), the launching pad for the best of international cinema.

The Dressmaker will have its world premiere at the festival. Produced by Victorian Sue Maslin and written and directed by Jocelyn Moorhouse, the film stars Academy Award winner Kate Winslet alongside local talent Liam Hemsworth, Judy Davis and Hugo Weaving.

The adaptation of the best-selling novel by Rosalie Ham will feature in the Gala Presentations section in the 40th Toronto Film Festival which runs from 10-20 September.

Looking for Grace has been selected for the inaugural TIFF Platform program for artistically ambitious international films with strong directorial vision.

It’s another significant milestone for writer and director Sue Brooks and producers Lizzette Atkins, Sue Taylor and Alison Tilson, after the film was announced to have its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival.

The debut feature film by director Grant Scicluna and producer Jannine Barnes, Downriver has been selected for the TIFF Discovery program. Downriver was developed through Film Victoria’s New Feature Writer’s Lab.

The three films all received government support through Film Victoria’s feature film development and production investment programs.

The Andrews Labor Government is proud to support Victorian film and filmmakers. They have helped make our state the nation’s arts and cultural capital.

They will screen alongside Spear, produced by Victorian Indigenous producer John Harvey and Robert Connolly, and, having its world premiere, A Month of Sundays, written and directed by Matthew Saville, who also produced alongside Nick Batzias of Madman Production Company.
