Victoria Says Konichiwa To New Flights To Tokyo

29 May 2017

Victoria has added to its already impressive air links to Asia, with Japan Airlines announcing it will commence daily direct flights between Melbourne and Tokyo in September this year.

Tourism and Major Events Minister John Eren said the new service would provide more choice for travellers and boost the number of seats on the popular route.

The announcement means that 31 international airlines will soon be flying in and out of Melbourne Airport.

The new service will also increase air freight capacity between Victoria and Japan, making it easier for local producers and businesses to export fresh food and beverages to the lucrative Japanese market.

Japan is one of Victoria’s most important markets for tourism, trade and business investment, and today’s announcement will only strengthen this relationship.

Last year, almost 60,000 Japanese tourists visited Victoria, contributing $141 million to our visitor economy.

That’s why the Andrews Labor Government continues to work closely with Melbourne Airport and international airline partners to attract more flights and visitors to Victoria.

Tourism Australia will work closely with Japanese Airlines and Visit Victoria to ensure the new service is actively marketed throughout Japan.
