Victoria Remains Australia’s Safest State For Workers

06 November 2015

Victoria has again been named the nation’s safest state in which to work, according to Safe Work Australia’s latest report.

Safe Work Australia has released its annual Comparative Performance Monitoring Report which compares workplace safety among all states and territories, based on claims per 1000 employees and claims per million hours worked.

Victoria recorded the least number of serious injuries and disease claims out of any state.

Minister for Finance Robin Scott said the results were a testament to the due diligence and hard work of employers and workers across the state.

The report found that Victorian workplaces had five serious injury claims for every million hours worked in 2013-14, falling by 7.4 per cent from the previous year.

Comparatively, Western Australia had 5.2 claims per million hours worked, followed by NSW (6), Queensland (7), South Australia (7.2) and Tasmania (8.4).

The report also revealed that since 2009-10, serious injury and disease claims in Victoria have fallen by 12.28 per cent.

While Victoria continues to compare favourably to other states, workers and employers are reminded to remain vigilant about workplace health and safety.
