Upgrades Put Seymour On Track For Racing Success

30 August 2017

The Andrews Labor Government is investing in better facilities and the biggest race day of the year at Seymour Racing Club.

Minister for Racing Martin Pakula inspected the Club’s new $1.2 million training track today and announced a funding package for the 2017 Seymour Cup.

The Labor Government contributed $600,000 towards the new sand fibre track through the Victorian Racing Industry Fund (VRIF). Racing Victoria also contributed $420,000 and the Seymour Racing Club provided $180,000.

The new track, which opened this week, replaces a 20-year-old synthetic training track and will be used by the club’s 40 trainers.

The project included stripping the old surface, improving the base and drainage systems, replacing running rails and installing an automatic irrigation system.

The Labor Government will also contribute $21,000 from the VRIF Raceday Attraction Program to support the 2017 Seymour Cup.

The Cup will be held in conjunction with the Tastes of the Goulburn food and wine festival on 22 October. The funding will go towards children’s activities, live music and free shuttle buses to help people get to and from the track safely.

The Club is contributing $11,330 to the event, and Country Racing Victoria is providing $8,000. A further $2,050 of donated services will also go towards the event.

Since December 2014, the Labor Government has provided almost $4 million to support race day events and improve facilities at the Seymour Racecourse.

The racing industry in the Goulburn region helps to sustain more than 2200 local jobs and generates more than $227 million annually for the Victorian economy.
