Melbourne will transform for White Night when the cultural showstopper returns next year.
Minister for Tourism and Major Events John Eren today joined White Night artistic director David Atkins OAM to launch White Night Melbourne. Next year’s instalment is set to feature the very best local and international artists for the all-night party.
The dusk to dawn event attracts enormous crowds as they marvel at spectacular illuminations, theatre, world-class dining experiences and street performances. Next year’s line-up is as spectacular as ever.
Epic light projections will return to Flinders Street once more, as crowds are treated to a stunning Fractured Fairytales display inspired by the Shrek film and Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoons.
At the Melbourne Museum Plaza, the world’s oldest hand operated, multi-octave fire organ will be on display as the Pyrophone Juggernaut puts on a fire and music spectacular.
And there are plenty of opportunities to dance. Swing City on Collins Street is where to go for an all-night dance marathon. Almost every style of dance will feature, all set to the sound of big band music.
White Night Melbourne is Australia’s contribution to the global phenomenon, Nuit Blanche. Victoria is the only Australian state to offer the all-night event, joining 23 other cities worldwide including Paris and Sao Paulo.
It’s a stunning spectacle and a great night out, but it’s a big driver of the economy too. Cultural showstoppers attract visitors from all over Australia and the world, keeping businesses busy and providing jobs for Victorians.
Public transport will run all night for White Night Melbourne, which means extra trains, trams and buses to get people into the celebrations and home again.
White Night Melbourne gets under way on February 18 at 7pm.
