Swan Hill Abattoir Expansion Means More Local Jobs

10 January 2017

Minister for Agriculture and Regional Development, Jaala Pulford, today toured the $15 million upgrade and expansion of Swan Hill Abattoir in a show of the Andrews Labor Government’s support for the project which is creating 75 new jobs.

The Labor Government helped secure Swan Hill Abattoir’s $15 million investment in the expansion, which will also create 30 construction jobs and safeguard more than 200 existing jobs.

The investment is helping transform the Swan Hill abattoir from a domestic to an export focused meat processing facility.

It includes new technology for six-way cutting, improved environmental performance due to the engine room upgrade, and streamlined floor operations to improve efficiency, while increasing output.

This project will help Swan Hill Abattoir remain competitive by reducing operating costs, expanding capacity, and extending and improving the product range.

Swan Hill Abattoir is a significant employer in the region, and with the Government’s support, jobs are being secured and the existing workforce will be boosted to drive innovation.

Through its $500 million Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Fund, the Government is supporting initiatives across the state that make regional Victoria a better place to live, work and do business in.
