Surf Coast Community Groups Share In Coastcare Funding

31 May 2017

Four Surf Coast community groups have received Coastcare grants to continue their vital voluntary work to protect and preserve Victoria’s precious coastal environment.

The Victoria Community Grants Program supports the conservation, restoration and rehabilitation of coastal and marine environments along Victoria's 2000km of coastline.

The Surf Coast projects include:

  • Anglesea Aireys Inlet Society for the Protection of Flora and Fauna (ANGAIR) – Soapy Rocks Revegetation Stage 3
  • Friends of Point Addis Marine National Park – installation of five interpretive signs in the Ironbark Basin regarding the presence of Phytophthora cinnamomi, plus a new bike wash station
  • Friends of the Hooded Plover Surf Coast – equipping the community with the tools to conserve the Hooded Plover
  • Jan Juc Coast Action – integrated weed management on the Jan Juc clifftops

These community groups were among 29 to receive funding through this year’s round of Coastcare grants.

The 2017/18 Victorian Budget includes $2 million to boost the Coastcare program and grants will rise to almost $300,000 over the next two years.
