Shaping The Future Of Our Great South Coast

31 August 2016

Great South Coast locals now have an unprecedented chance to shape the future of their region.

Minister for Regional Development Jaala Pulford announced the start of online consultation for the Great South Coast Regional Partnership members, ahead of its first Regional Assembly to be held in Port Fairy on October 6.

A new website launched by the Andrews Labor Government today will give rural and regional Victorians the chance to share their ideas about local opportunities and challenges across every government portfolio.

Each of the nine Regional Partnerships will host an assembly involving at least 100 people, including community members, Ministers, Members of Parliament and local government – coming together to discuss priorities for each region.

Great South Coast community members can register their interest in attending the assembly on the new website, which includes polls, links to strategic regional plans and more information about the Partnership. Feedback received online will inform discussions at the assembly.

Following the assemblies, each Partnership will deliver key recommendations to government through the new Rural and Regional Ministerial Committee made up of seven members of Cabinet and chaired by Ms Pulford.

The Great South Coast Regional Partnership includes the shires of Corangamite, Glenelg, Moyne, Southern Grampians and the City of Warrnambool.

Boosting tourism opportunities, creating new jobs, improving the road network, supporting local food and fibre and improving education outcomes, are the types of issues which could be addressed by this Partnership.

“Rural and regional Victorians are passionate and keen to develop their regions. We hope they will embrace this opportunity to be part of Victoria’s first Regional Assemblies.”

Quotes attributable to Great South Coast Regional Partnership Chair Ms Emily Lee-Ack

“I’m really excited to see the views put forward about our community through the online consultation.”

The excellent thing about the website is that you can use it any time – so you don't have to attend a meeting or write a letter to have your views heard. It’s also a way to nominate to attend our Regional Assembly in October.”
