From architecture to fashion, the search is on for the best in Victorian design and creativity.
Minister for Creative Industries Martin Foley today opened entries for the 2016 Victorian Premier’s Design Awards, calling for submissions across an expanded range of design categories.
The annual Awards celebrate Victorian designers and businesses that use exemplar design in effective, sustainable and collaborative ways.
In addition to categories for Architectural, Service, Industrial and Product , Communication and Digital Design, and Design Strategy, the 2016 Awards include a new category for Fashion Design as well as a Student Design Award in recognition of the next generation of designers and innovators from Victoria.
The Awards are supported by the Andrews Labor Government through its $115 million creative industries strategy, Creative State. They form part of a comprehensive package of initiatives to make Victoria a design leader.
This investment recognises, and seeks to grow, the contribution the design sector makes to the Victorian economy.
Over 85,000 people are directly employed in design-related roles in Victoria, with the design sector generating revenues of $5 billion annually including an estimated $400 million in design-related exports.
Entries to the Premier’s Design Awards are judged by a panel of eminent Australian and international judges. Entries close on 30 September 2016.
An awards ceremony will take place in December 2016, along with an exhibition of the finalists and winners.
