Scholarship Opportunities For Council Staff

21 August 2015

The Andrews Labor Government is supporting local government staff as they assist their council and community in responding to climate change.

Minister for Climate Change Lisa Neville and Minister for Local Government Natalie Hutchins have announced up to 40 scholarships to fund training for council staff across Victoria.

Local councils are at the forefront of delivering services to the Victorian community, with climate change impacting upon services including health, planning, emergency management, roads, and infrastructure.

The Labor Government will fund up to 55 per cent of the cost of the university accredited course, which aims to help staff improve efficiencies and provide a whole-of-council approach to incorporating an understanding of climate change in their service delivery.

The Centre of Local Government, University of Technology Sydney (CLG:UTS) will deliver the course and training to local government in rural Victoria on 29 September and 17 November 2015.

Scholarships are open to executive and senior management council staff and more information can be found on the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) website at www.delwp.vic.gov.auExternal Link .

The opportunity underscores a whole-of-government approach to restoring Victoria as a leader in climate change action, alongside the review of the Climate Change Act, as well as investigating a state emissions reduction target.
