Review To Ensure Victoria Remains Leader In Fire Services

29 July 2015

The Andrews Labor Government has launched a comprehensive review into the MFB and CFA to ensure the state maintains its world-class fire services.

Minister for Emergency Services Jane Garrett said the Fire Services Review (FSR) will examine and make recommendations on the resourcing, operations, management and culture of the organisations.

It will look at ways to better support our firefighters to keep the community safe. The review is a key part of ensuring Victoria remains a world leader in emergency management.

Ms Garrett has appointed David O’Byrne, a former Tasmanian Minister for Police and Emergency Services, to conduct the review.

Mr O’Byrne has extensive expertise in government, public service and community organisations.

Ms Garrett said Victoria is well served by our outstanding firefighters and the review will place the MFB and CFA in the best possible position for the future.

The review will be completed by the start of the summer fire season.
