Resilient Australia Awards Now Open

22 March 2016

Minister for Emergency Services, Jane Garrett, is encouraging Victorians to enter in the 2015 Resilient Australia Awards, which recognises innovation in emergency management and community safety.

Now in its 16th year, the national awards promote local projects that help make communities safer and better prepared for natural disasters, such as bushfires or floods.

The awards are open to all Victorians, including individuals, not for profit organisations, small and large businesses, local and state governments, schools, education institutions, research bodies and emergency service agencies.

Last year a number of Victorian projects received awards, including the St Andrews Community Bushfire Recovery Association for its 2014 Fire Preparedness Calendar.

The Violet Town CFA was also commended for its ‘Red Bucket and Know Your Neighbours’ program which saw firefighters doorknock the entire community to give people buckets full of information on fire safety.

The categories in the 2015 Victorian awards include community, business, government, schools and disaster photography.

Applications will be judged at the state and territory level, and the winners will become finalists for the national judging.

Nominations for the 2015 Resilient Australia Awards will close on 9 August 2015. To apply online go to https://resilient.awardsplatform.comExternal Link
