Victorian Councils are good at delivering services such as libraries and waste management, but could improve on road maintenance, according to results of a new state-wide survey released today.
Minister for Local Government Natalie Hutchins today announced the findings of the 2017 Community Satisfaction Survey, conducted by the Victorian Government on behalf of 68 participating councils.
The survey of almost 28,000 Victorians revealed satisfaction with councils remained largely steady across a number of key areas including community consultation, advocacy and council direction.
The survey shows that Council road maintenance remains an issue, particularly in rural and regional areas, with the survey score for this area slipping from 2016.
This year’s survey also indicates that interface councils – those on Melbourne’s urban fringe where a vast majority of Victoria’s population growth is occurring – are performing significantly higher than the state average.
The Andrews Labor Government has invested in $100 million in infrastructure projects in these 10 councils through the Growing Suburbs Fund, with another $50 million announced in the Victorian Budget 2017-18.
We also made an unprecedented investment of $1 billion to fix dangerous arterial road right across regional Victoria – from filling in potholes to completely rebuilding entire sections.
