Thousands of trade apprentices who rely on their car to do their job every day will be better off under the Andrews Labor Government’s $8.8 million discount registration scheme.
Under the scheme, eligible apprentice tradies can apply for a 50 per cent discount on their vehicle’s registration fee and Transport Accident Charge.
This extra financial support provided in the 2015-16 Victorian Budget will put more money back in the pockets of thousands of trade apprentices working across Victoria.
Eligible apprentices paying standard registration on a light vehicle in metropolitan Melbourne, will save $378.85 per year.
Bricklayers, carpenters, joiners, electricians and plumbers will be among those eligible for a discount if their employers can demonstrate that the use of the vehicle is an essential part of their work.
The Andrews Labor Government is supporting the skills of the next generation of Victorian workers. Money trade apprentices save on rego costs can now be invested in more training and more tools.
Eligible apprentices will be able to receive discounted registration from 1 January, 2016.
